Sidalcea malviflora ssp. virgata
Rose Checkermallow | A hollyhock looking flower sits atop this two foot plant that enjoys areas of the garden that dry out in the summer. Described as a plant that likes clay soils that dry out in the summer in its native area of the Pacific Northwest. This plant is one that could use some extra amending and soil prep when planting. Treat it similar to a lavender that doesn't want soggy wet feet in the winter. Planted on raised areas in the garden or in well amended rock gardens. A beautiful color on a plant that is hard to come by in this area.
