This iris has outstanding ornamental features with its striking eggplant-purple new foliage that emerges from the ground in early spring. Going into summer, the bold purple leaves start to fade to a green that's more typical of iris species. In late spring to early summer, dark stems produce dark purple flowers. Photo courtesy Mt.
