The common name comes from the flowers' resemblance to a turtle poking its head out of its shell. Soft white blooms appear generally from July through September. An important host for the larvae of the Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly. This native species prefers moist soils in full to part sun. Photo courtesy of North Creek Nursery.
