A selection of our native Hydrangea with an incredible back story.  Found by Harriet Kirkpatrick in Union County Illinois in 1910 while horseback riding.  She brought the plant back to her garden in Anna, Illinois where she grew it and shared with friends around town and a division made its way to Urbana, Illinois in 1935.  Fast forward another 25 years and Dr. Joseph C. McDaniel, a professor at the University of Illinois, noticed this plant growing near campus in Urbana and was the one who finally got it into cultivation and into the market.  Tracing its roots back to Harriet and Anna, Joseph named the cultivar after the southern belle from Anna, Illinois who first discovered it.
