Iris versicolor 'Purple Flame' (Blue Flag Iris)
When seen during the summer this 3' tall flag iris looks like many others you have seen. It is in spring that this Mt. Cuba Center selection struts its stuff. Deep purple foliage erupts from the ground and stays with the plant until it flowers with it's deep blue blooms. When the weather starts to warm up the purple foliage will begin to fade to green. A great Iris for damp to mesic soils in full sun to light shade.
