This native species is one I started from seed at Yew Dell and eventually decided to purchase and give it a try in my own yard. It was an absolute Monarch butterfly MAGNET. Every day coming home from work between August and September I would be graced by the presence of half a dozen adult monarchs fluttering about and enjoying the nectar from these bright purple flowers. It is a tall plant so staking may be required if you don't want too wild of an aesthetic. A less common Liatris than L. spicata, also named Devil's Bite or Savannah Blazing Star.
