Silene regia (Royal Catchfly)

I have always found this plant to be pretty reminiscent of the native Cardinal Flower. A native as well, the Royal Catchfly has a basal rosette of foliage and tall stems that are covered in a sticky substance, giving it the namesake Catchfly as many small insects can get caught as they walk along the stems and leaves. The plant is not carnivorous though, and the sticky substance may be simply to deter small pests. The flowers are star shaped and bright, beaming scarlet red with one of the more eye-catching floral displays you will see.
